We recommend a week-trip around Madrid, which is ideal for visiting all worth-seeing city’s attractions as it is a nice opportunity for excursion during the whole year. The visitor will gain a thorough outlook of Spain’s richness with its outstanding museums and historical settings.

Some of the most popular museums are the Prado Museum, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia National Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Do not miss though a visit to Picasso's "Guernica". We highly recommend that you dedicate a fair amount of your time to walk through and wander around the old quarters (like the picturesque Puerta del Sol & Plaza Mayor) and the typical commercial streets (like Goya, Gran Via & Preciados).Among others, the towns recommended for excursions are: Segovia, Avila, El Escorial, Toledo and Aranjuez. Segovia, Avila and Toledo are like open-air museums where the two-thousand year history of Spain is imbued in every street, building and square.

They then expelled all Muslims and Jews from their new Christian kingdom. By 1512, most of the kingdoms of present-day Spain were politically unified. The unification of Iberia was complete when Felipe II, became King of Portugal in 158. During the 16th century, with Carlos I and Felipe II, Spain became the most powerful European nation, its territory covering most of South and Central America, Asia - Pacific, the Iberian Peninsula, southern Italy, Germany, and the Low Countries.
